First hot air balloon regatta for five years above London on the way

After four years of disruption a hot air balloon display is set to go ahead in London this summer.

The event was last held in 2019 and was disrupted by covid in 2020 and 2021 before bad weather in 2022 and 2023 halted proceedings.

But barring a catastrophe balloons should be seen over the capital in July, with three standby dates earmarked on Sunday 7th July, Sunday 21st and Sunday 28th.

Last year take off was hampered by poor weather both in the summer then during another attempt in the autumn.

In July 2019 a total of 46 balloons could be seen over London flying over the Thames Barrier, Charlton, Greenwich then above the centre of town.

The event raises money for charity and is the official ballooning event of The City of London and an aerial extension of the Lord Mayor’s Show.
