Further events on Lewisham shopping centre rebuild

Further events are to be held in coming weeks showing plans to demolish and rebuild Lewisham shopping centre.

Events are open to the public at Unit 25 within the centre opposite TKMaxx on:

  • Wednesday 22 May: 12:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Wednesday 29 May: 12:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Wednesday 5 June: 3pm – 7:30pm
  • Wednesday 12 June: 3pm – 7:30pm
  • Saturday 15 June: 10am – 5pm

A model of planned changes will be on show.

Redevelopment will see residential towers. New shops, a substantial green space and improved pedestrian routes across the town centre.

Last week developer Landsec U&I released annual financial reports with a report targeting a 2026 start date.

Detailed planning should be submitted later this year for part of the site with outline approval covering the rest.

It’s not the only big change coming soon to Lewisham. The High Street and market area will be substantially changed using “levelling-up” funding.

  • I went to the public event today and looked at the plans. The plans and models don’t seem to be any different from the ones at the previous event a few months back.

They say the first phase of the development will be the old City Bank Building and the Lewisham Model Market, which will be turned into a music venue. The Shopping Centre will be functioning until the first phase has been completed.

The construction is planned to start in 2026.
