Greenwich retail park in Charlton sees proposed change

An application has been made to open Farm Foods within the firmer Wilko unit at a Charlton retail park.

The company seeks to change opening hours at the Bugsby’s Way site between 8.00am to 10pm Monday to Saturdays.

This site was a short lived affair as with Wilko only opening in late 2020 around the time their Woolwich town centre branch closed to make way for a forthcoming leisure centre.

Wilko then collapsed in 2023 with the store estate divided up. In recent weeks the former Bexleyheath store became B&M.

The Wilko brand name is now under the control of The Range who launched a website while various stores reopen as other outlets – if opening at all.

As for Farm Foods they don’t have too many shops in London with the closest probably being Erith. The Charlton branch will sit directly next to Lidl and close to Aldi.

Plans for the Charlton store can be viewed here.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I hope so, it’s the best of the discounters by far as quality goes (the hash browns alone are twice the size of supermarket ones, and four times tastier).

  • If I were world king, I’d level all of the big shed retail parks in Charlton (and all of London) and replace them with walkable, car-free town centres with multi-storey flats above ground floor retail.

  • Excellent news our nearest Farm Foods store is in Erith. Farm Foods offer good value for money. So I hope they get permission to open on the site of the old Charlton Wilko store.
Mark does make some hood points and mixed used developments consisting of retail space at ground floor level with hones about have proven to work well.
