Sidcup’s new Marks & Spencer opening in just over a week

A new Marks and Spencer Food Hall store in Sidcup is set to open in little over a week.

The shops will open doors on 19th June and is part of a new mixed-use development at a former co-op site near the station.

It’s taken some years to get to this point with M&S signing up five years ago. At the time it was reported that M&S would pay annual rent of £365,000 a year for 20 years while the co-op were paying £164,000 annually.

A year later the land was up for sale. With no takers at £10 million it was reduced to £7.75m. Plans finally got underway in 2022.

Alongside the food store are 59 flats built on upper floors a very short walk to both Sidcup station as well as the Superloop route SL3 heading to Bexleyheath then fast to Abbey Wood station.

The new store should see decent footfall given it’s near a fair amount of existing housing as well as Premier Inn hotel and the Met Police’s large office block over the road.

The M&S store will include a bakery on site as well.
