Woolwich pub and restaurant up for sale

The Guard House pub and restaurant on the Royal Arsenal site in Woolwich is up for sale.

The Young’s-run establishment sits opposite another outlet from the same company in the Dial Arch.

Entrance to Royal Arsenal site. Guard House to left and Dial Arch up ahead

The sale was spotted by @MyWoolwich on Twitter. It’s not the only Woolwich pub whose future may be up in the air.

The Woolwich Equitable closed for good last year and in recent months so did the Ordnance aka The Old Gun Pit.

Closed

Also in recent months the Bull Tavern near the station was shut.

That’s due for demolition with a retained façade as part of a near-500 home development behind the forthcoming leisure centre.

In recent years other sites away from the town centre such as The King’s Arms have closed near the barracks with a Tesco expected on site.

Shut for good

It’s bad all news for pubs in the town though as Salt also on the Royal Arsenal site seek to expand into an adjacent unit.

    • It is a shame but the hospatality sector are still struggling to get back to pre-covid levels.
A nice restaurant selling traditional english fayre would make a good use of the site.
We have many other restaurants in Woolwich selling a range of food to suit all tastes from Indian to Chinese food.
Selling food does help to bring in additional income for pubs. It is nice to enjoy a quiet meal and a drink with family and friends.
I hope new owners can be found for some of the pubs to help maintain the Woolwich night time economy.

    • A little know fact about the latern hanging above the main doorway. It was borrowed from the Houses of Parliament for an event years ago and should have been returned but never was….wonder if Youngs know this. Hopefully, the space is used for a decent restaurant/Bar.

Apparently, Indian food place will open, instead. Meh!
