Excel Centre reveal new entertainment district Immerse LDN in major expansion

A major expansion of the Excel Centre will be occupied by a new entertainment district according to the centre’s owner ADNEC Group.

Launching in August 2024 with two exhibits, Excel is situated beside Custom House Elizabeth line station which is just four minutes from Woolwich station and seven minutes from Abbey Wood station.

The expansion is closer to Prince Regent DLR station than Custom House station granted but it’s hardly a long walk or a quick one stop jaunt from Custom House.

Opening this summer are exhibits based around the ’90s American sitcom Friends as well as Formula 1: The Exhibition.

F1 cars will be on show including the remains of Romain Grosjean’s Hass which was involved in a spectacular crash the driver fortunately survived.

Future

The venue will host a revolving number of events and exhibitions with its proximity to south east London offering many the chance of quick links to jobs and entertainment that would have taken a fair bit longer before the Elizabeth line began.

The venue also seems to be looking for attracting visitors beyond daytime exhibitions with a food hall beside the Royal Docks later this year alongside food market operator KERB with stands alongside the dock edge.

It again shows the massive changes new transport links can provide for employment and recreation. Thinking back not that long ago to being in Abbey Wood in the 2000s when there was so little nearby.

Woolwich was on its knees and getting to Bexleyheath was the twice an hour B11. Greenwich was about it for going out (and getting home within half an hour).

Now the DLR and Elizabeth line takes you to various events and locations all over London so much quicker. The stuff we dreamt about.

Even if Friends and F1 isn’t your cup of tea something may pop up soon that is – and there’s the job options.

Plus food options like Duck Shed (serving wraps, salads & burgers), Masa Taqueria (Tacos), Nazari (Middle Eastern cuisine) and speciality London-roasted coffee house Hej.

All with views across the Royal Victoria Dock. Granted the name Immerse LDN is a bit WNK but overall not too shabby.
