Woolwich ferry running times extending to 10pm

Transport for London have announced an evening extension of Woolwich ferry operating times.

TfL now control and operate the ferry

Currently last ferries cease running by 9pm with 10pm now set to become the norm – though services will start an hour later at 6am rather than 5am.

According to TfL passenger projections this year are to rise to two million passengers.

Back in May services were increased back to levels last seen some years ago before problematic new ferries were introduced.

The ferry is inextricably linked to Silvertown tunnel just down the road in Greenwich. Both Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are set to be rolled out from 2025 which risks pushing further traffic through Charlton.

The ferry though is of course not just for cars. Passengers can use it to reach bus services and amenities either side of the river and for those in Woolwich it offers a link to recently introduced Superloop service SL2.

The ferry offers an alternative to Woolwich foot tunnel. For less able pedestrians and many cyclists the foot tunnel has been unusable with lifts regularly broken.
