Free live music at Woolwich Works Courtyard events over summer
Woolwich Works is set to have a summer of live music events in their courtyard starting this Saturday.
Alongside various live acts will be a bar, food and art installations.
Woolwich Works has struggled since opening and again seen criticism this week with an event half empty and poorly promoted. With that in mind I thought I’d give this a bit of publicity.
Woolwich Works (much like Greenwich Council who funded it) barely ever bother to send me emails about what’s happening unlike most other authorities in London and beyond (as an example Bexley Council – who are hardly amazing – sent me an email this morning with a story about Lesnes Abbey Woods).
From day one I’ve said I hope it attracts people from far and wide but they do seem intent to flop it can sometimes appear. While burning through cash and requiring taxpayer bailouts.
The thing is it should work. It’s a doddle to reach from much of south east London on buses and trains while local population numbers increase as ever more developments are built.
The Elizabeth line in turn makes it easy to reach from much of London and now there’s even the Superloop bus from areas of east London such as Walthamstow, Barking and Beckton to North Woolwich which is a short hop across the Thames.
The foot tunnel’s broken lifts don’t help but now the ferry is running more regularly at long last and until 10pm it will help some.
This Saturday’s event starts at 1:30pm and right now the weather is looking pretty good.
