Bromley Waitrose expansion and housing development approved

Plans to rebuild and extend Waitrose in Bromley alongside the construction of 353 homes have been approved.

The decision was made last night at a meeting of the borough’s Development Control Committee.

Proposed development

The site sits metres from Bromley South station with services to Victoria and Blackfriars.

The development sees John Lewis Partnerships (who own Waitrose) paying more than £6 million in Community Infrastructure Levy payment for local services, however “affordable” housing is just 10 per cent.

Waitrose plan

A total of 150 parking spaces will be on site. The supermarket building will be stripped back to its frame, extended and see new cladding applied.

Residential units will be located within a number of blocks topping out at 24 storeys. Furniture within will be from John Lewis.

Further details of the plan can be seen in my recent post here.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Excellent news the new larger Waitrose store will benefit local residents including those that will move in to the new homes and visitors to Bromley Town Centre..
Nice to hear some good news for the retail sector.
