Horse and Cart to head around Greenwich to celebrate pub group anniversary
Pubs across Greenwich will be visited by a horse and cart as pub group Young’s put on publicity events to mark their anniversary.
It’ll visit four venues across town on Thursday 19th September at these times:
- Richard The First (the old Tolly), 52/54 Royal Hill – 11am to midday
- Old Brewery at the Old Royal Naval College – 12:30pm to 1:30pm
- Cutty Sark pub beside the river – 2pm to 3pm
- Enderby House, 23 Telegraph Avenue, SE10 0TH – 3:30pm to 4:30pm
A free pint will be on offer via their app.
Expansion
Young’s have slowly been taking on ever more sites in the town in recent years and in turn the area has lost some good spots like Meantime’s old Greenwich Union.
What is now called Richard the First expanded next door into it.
The Old Brewery was a custom-made Meantime outlet featuring a brewery on site – but that was closed as Meantime was sold and over time has given up on much of a local presence.
Of course with Meantime cutting back it could be said Young’s have kept venues alive, but they often feel a bit too soulless for my liking.
Fortunately some more interesting pubs still exist in the town beyond the anodyne and corporate Young’s outlets such as the Pelton Arms (with lots of live music) and the River Ale House in east Greenwich with a cracking selection of beer and ciders.
This is a publicity stunt . Youngs are now just a Pub Compamy , they no longer brew beer , that is now brewed by Marstons
