Landslip sees Southeastern trains cancelled and diverted

A landslip in the Welling area has seen Southeastern trains cancelled this morning (Thursday 19 September).

The company state “A landslip between Barnehurst and Welling has blocked the line for trains travelling towards London. Staff are en route to identify the severity.”

Trains are not running and instead diverted via the Woolwich line towards London.

Landslips in the area are not new. Back in 2019 a landslip blocked the line.

That followed prior events around Barnehurst in February 2010, February 2014 & January 2016.

Network Rail spent £6.6 million on strengthening embankments along parts of the line.

Trains running in the Kent-bound direction are running but at a reduced speed.

UPDATE: The line has reopened though trains in both directions are still subject to speed restrictions.

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
