Deptford pub rebuild nears completion after demolition

A rebuilt pub at the corner of Deptford High Street and Evelyn Street is nearing completion.

Around five years ago the former Noah’s Ark was all but demolished without authorisation.

Pub all but demolished as seen in 2019

The building’s owners stated it was necessary for safety reasons.

Since then it’s been a slow process with rebuilding and last time I covered it no windows were in place.

Looking down Evelyn Street. Ground floor improvements expected

Commercial space is due at ground floor level with homes above. Shopfront plans were approved in April 2024 by Lewisham Council.

Five flats will be located on upper floors.

All in all the rebuild looks decent enough from the outside. What occupies the ground floor space remains to be seen.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I’m pretty sure that I saw signs of occupation on the upper floors when I was in Deptford a couple of weeks’ ago. I am pleased that the council was able to force the developer to rebuild. Time will tell if the the shop units will be tenanted.

  • Well done Lewisham Council. Different scenario, but I hope Greenwich council hold their ground regarding the abomination that is Mast Quay Phase II.
