Woman dies after collision in Kidbrooke

A woman has died after a collision in Kidbrooke this morning around the junction of Kidbrooke Park Road and Pegler Square.

The incident occurred just before 8:30am. She was treated at the scene but later pronounced dead.

London Ambulance Service state an ambulance crew, a paramedic in fast response car, an incident response officer, members of the Tactical Response Unit and an air ambulance from London Ambulance Service attended.

Looking towards Kidbrooke Park Road and Peglar Square

Kidbrooke Park Road is closed both ways between Weigall Road and Henley Cross. Bus routes 178 and 335 are on diversion.

Pegler Square is part of the Kidbrooke Village development and sits beside Kidbrooke station. A number of incidents have occurred on roads in the area including last October when a five year old was hit by a motorcycle.

Almost 1,000 people signed a petition last year calling for street improvements. It stated “immediate action is essential. This faulty design places the lives of children, families, and commuters at unnecessary risk.”

The site is located near the TfL-managed A2 junction which also lacks signalised crossing for pedestrians in places despite thousands of new homes, a railway station and shops including housing at Kidbrooke Village, Kidbrooke Station Square and two major Greenwich Builds projects.

TfL state: “Routes 178 335 are on diversion in both directions due to a collision. Buses will not be serving stops from ‘Thomas Tallis School (F)’ to ‘Kidbrooke Park Road/Tudway Road’, and from ‘Tudway’ to ‘Kidbrooke Park Road/Aldi Store (D).”

    • I witnessed the aftermath of this horrible event this morning and it was truly shocking.

It’s the exact anniversary of the 5 year old being hit on the same street, again by a motorbike.

The traffic discipline on Kidbrooke Park Road is horrendous.

Traffic gets annoyed getting north and south of the Kidbrooke Elbow and at the crappily laid out turnings at the A20 mean a bunch of wound up drivers and bikers fight each other all along the street.

20mph was supposed to be implemented during 2024 but hasn’t been. I hope it is by the time the Xthousand more residents are installed in the yet to be finished housing blocks.

Speed cameras, speed humps and effective policing on a daily basis please.

    • A bad, bad road. So many tense commuters speeding through who don’t seem to realise how residential it is, and that they ought to slow down.

It’s the only school I know of that’s still 30mph outside. Why not make the whole stretch of KPR, north of the junction with with Rochester Way, a bus / taxi only? It’s not really A-road capacity anyway.

I mean, it’s just so sad that people are losing their lives, and nobody seems to want to take any responsibility for that. Just hope the recent traffic monitoring yields a result.

    • The junction where the 5y old died should have pedestrian crossing. I am against the 20mph everywhere, but from peggler sq to thomas tallis and A2, a 20mph would be more than welcome with speed camera enforcement. I don’t understand the 20mph in Woolwich common where there is only wood, and here in kdb where population has increased tremendously and will carry on this 30mph. The council flats being built opposite Aldi do not have a crossing to KDB station. Is this council waiting for more deaths?
