Lewisham shopping centre demolition plan submitted
The first stage of demolishing Lewisham shopping centre is included within a new planning application submitted to Lewisham Council.
Landowner LandSec U+I have submitted a plan to demolish the former Argos and adjoining buildings.
An adjacent ramp leading to the centre’s car park is not part of demolition plans at this time.
In recent weeks the company announced a proposal for live music and food at the site in advance of a comprehensive redevelopment which could see more than 2,000 homes and a new centre.
A new centre will be located in the middle of the site. Green space is proposed above.
A number of High Street shops will be retained though a few will be demolished.
Start date
Forthcoming demolition of buildings including the former Argos is expected to start in November 2024 and complete by May 2025.
The application states in regards to access during work:
“Following a review of the site and the local road network, two access routes for vehicles to the site have been established.
“Route 1 is via the Northern service ramp onto service deck level to demolish the upper levels.”
“Route 2 is also via the Northern Service ramp with Construction vehicles using the South service exit ramp and turning left into the site at the bottom of the ramp.”
Opposite the site sits Lewisham sculpture park (which has almost no sculptures left anymore) which is set to see a major £3.5 million revamp.
