Greenwich tower defects to cost another £14 million to fix
Problems with a Greenwich tower built in 2010 will require another £14 million in remediation work.
Developer Bellway announced the cost in financial results released yesterday. The company have already spent £31 million on problems with the tower’s reinforced concrete frame.
They state: “Bellway is actively pursuing recoveries from the entities involved in the development of the Greenwich apartment scheme, primarily through their insurers, however, given the complexity of this process, these have not yet been recognised as an asset”.
So what tower is it you wonder? Well, they don’t say but we know it was built around 2010-2011. One Bellway development from around that time in Greenwich was River Gardens, but that isn’t high rise.
It appears that City Peninsula was constructed around that time by the company and no other tower dates from the period in Greenwich.
City Peninsula also had flammable cladding that required removal a few short years after completion.
Bellway have been contacted for comment. They state no other buildings are affected.
How can it be that a block constructed relatively recently needs £45 millions’ of mediation work?
