Axed DLR services from Lewisham set to return
Lewisham is set to see direct trains to Stratford restored after recent cuts due to speed limits.
Services will recommence on Monday 4th November.
Work undertaken on signalling in advance of new stock entering service found an insufficient margin between actual running speed and the recommended maximum theoretical speed.
Trains never breached the maximum recommended speed but it was felt more leeway between the two was necessary.
Upon changes being introduced, longer gaps begun to appear at Lewisham along with complaints of overcrowding.
The timing was unfortunate as it coincided almost to the day with residents began moving into a major new development at Lewisham Gateway metres from the station.
While services are back, journey times will be slower.
The issue has impacted other lines, with routes to Woolwich Arsenal also being slowed though not cut. It does however reduce resilience at station turnarounds.
New trains due to be introduced by April 2024 are still not ready with no confirmed date of introduction as 30 year old stock continue in service.
That’s great news for people who use the DLR to and from Lewisham. I have been to Lewisham few times on the DLR and I also remember when the DLR was extended from Island Gardens to Lewisham. With the viaduct removed and the DLR went beneath the River Thames. But still good news.
