Superloop route SL2 to see extra bus stops served
Bus route SL2 between north Woolwich and Walthamstow is to see extra stops served in the Royal Docks according to Transport for London.
Changes will begin tomorrow (Saturday 16 November) with buses calling at new stops on Royal Docks Road.
To be specific it’s to the south of the junction with Armada Way providing access to the eastern area of Beckton as well as Gallions Reach retail park.
If it’s the stop I’m thinking of it always had Superloop signs but was not served. Here’s a photo from the first day of SL2 operation of the stop.
If so it’s also just a tad north of the bridge to nowhere; a stump of road built with the future intention to connect with a road bridge to Thamesmead which was never built.
SL3
There have recently been calls for an extra stop on Superloop route SL3 south of the Thames at Bexley.
The difference there is that buses were never supposed to pass the proposed stopping point on route SL3 near Bexley Village. They only did so due to long-term roadworks and the type of buses used.
New Routemasters are in use with long wheelbases and struggle to make some turns. They are set for replacements in 2025 with a new fleet of electric buses.
Why not add a new Superloop bus route to and from Thamesmead with the DLR extension to Thamesmead from Gallions Reach to get the go ahead. As part of the regeneration of Thamesmead. And the people who live there want better transport links.
I totally agree Andrew Gwilt. Thamesmead does need better transport links has does Kidbrooke and other areas of the Royal Borough of Greenwich which is in need of bus service improvements across the Borough..However, A new route from Beckton/Gallions Reach to Thamesmead via Silvertown Tunnel is a great idea and will provide Thanesmead with a much needed service to East London as the DLR extension to Thamesmead coujd be 10 or 20 yearsc awayv if byikt I have always thought superloop route SL3 Thamesmead to Bromley North via Bexleyheath could also do with additional stops as large sections of the route does not have a bus stop which is served route SL3. Additional stops would increase the number of passengers using the route and in turn bring extra revenue from the fares making the routes more viable to operate
