Proposal for new development near Deptford High Street submitted
Plans are in for residential development on Evelyn Road near Deptford High Street.
Caerus Developments are looking to build 38 flats on a site used by Akwaaba church and before that a nursery before being put up for sale.
It’s close close to the recently rebuilt Noah’s Ark pub and adjacent car wash has seen plans come and go over the years with little happening.
An approved plan more than five years ago saw planning permission granted for eight flats and four commercial units.
Design
Design-wise there’s very little to criticise here and a fair amount to commend with a solid grid-like façade and incorporated balconies (no nasty, cheap looking clip-on stuff thankfully) and some nice brick detailing.
Corner treatment is well done and at six-floors in height will be pretty contextual with the surrounding area.
It’s completely “affordable” housing however at the intermediate London Living Rent level, which is some way above the lower London Affordable Rent level.
At ground floor there is a a 270 square metre commercial unit on the street corner.
Transport is very good with Deptford station a short walk with a six minute journey to London Bridge. A number of bus routes past the site (though tend to take an age to reach central London).
Full details and documents can be seen here.
A solid grid-like façade?
I’ve only seen that on, er, oh yes that’s it, THE VAST MAJORITY OF NEW BUILD FLATS IN THE PAST DECADE!
It doesn’t even look good. Do something original instead.
