Vandalism and fire halts Southeastern trains through New Eltham

Southeastern are unable to operate trains this evening along the Sidcup line after an object was thrown onto tracks in the New Eltham area.

The company state “We’ve received reports that an object has been thrown onto the line at New Eltham, causing a lineside fire. The fire is extinguished but has caused damage to the track.”

Network Rail are on site fixing damaged equipment but no trains are able to run along the Sidcup line.

Floods, sinkholes, fires, vandalism. Not a great week for the area

Trains are being diverted along other lines towards Dartford. Trains towards London can run but are liable to delays – and of course little use to many heading home from work.

The line is affected from Hither Green all the way to Dartford. A look at train times shows cancellations and delays on loop line rounder services impacting the line to and from Abbey Wood, so for those using the Elizabeth line hoping to change you may encounter problems.

Tickets may be used on buses though to compound issues for some a sinkhole near New Eltham station earlier this week sees heavy road congestion in the area.
