Construction on new Greenwich supermarket well underway
Work to extend a building near the o2 for a Sainsbury’s supermarket is now well underway.
It’s to be located directly beside the Tesco Express which will be welcome to those who wanted to grab something on an event day. It’s heaving.
Local residents heading home will also welcome the shop as thousands of new homes lack much in the way of food stores, with a small co-op further south.
Hoardings proclaiming “Watch this space – Something exciting is coming soon” raise a smile.
It’s a Sainsbury’s Local – and you’d be hard pressed to find much exciting about that.
As the above image shows the extension at ground floor levels to allow a bigger shop than the existing structure at 6 Mitre Passage.
The existing space had previously seen approval in 2014 for a police base and gym.
I think the new Sainsburys supermarket near to the Tesco Express store will be welcomed by local residents and visitors to the area. Despite the huge amount of new homes on the Greenwich Peninsula thee is still a lack of local amenities. There area needs more supermarkets. GP Surgeries. Nurseries and schools etc
.As well as improvements to public transport.
