New supermarket to open in midst of Deptford development hotspot
A recently built development in Deptford is set to see a Morrisons supermarket open on site.
It’s on the Neptune Wharf development where 199 homes have completed.
Note in the above image that it’s also walkable from another substantial development known as Deptford Landings (and formerly The Timberyard).
That will eventually see more than 1,100 new homes.
The site is also close to a student block on the rise just under the railway arches to west.
This block hit trouble when contractor Henry Construction went under.
Though it has risen since. When complete it’ll see 393 student rooms alongside 58 flats.
It’s also merely the first sign of wide-ranging and substantial changes on this side of the tracks.
A 26-floor tower is also due on the Apollo Business Centre approved earlier this year.
Not far away sits Millwall’s ground where 3,500 homes are proposed as part of “New Bermondsey” which should also see a London Overground station constructed.
In other words, this new shop (which is a smaller Morrison’s Local) probably won’t be short of custom whether construction workers or residents in years to come.
Deptford Landings also has an ASDA about to open- so two new supermarkets in the area!
This excellent news for local residents. As amenities and transport infrastructure are largely ignored when planning new developments not to mention the growing local population who all need to shop.
I agree we all have to go shopping so I welcome local shops and amenities. Sadly amenities along with infrastructure are often not taken into consideration when planning new developments.
We must see improvements to amenities including GP Surgeries, Shops, Nurseries, schools etc in high density housing developments. Along with improved bus services and improved links to stations hospitals and schools..
I agree 100%. Amenities including infrastructure are not improved enough cope with an increased demand which new developments bring as new residents move in.
A lot of new developments have limited car parking spaces so people want to shop locally and rely on public transport.
I am hoping more new developments will bring more new local amenities as part of future developments. Including shops, GP Surgeries, schools etc.
We also need to support local businesses and economies.
