Lewisham Gateway to see new Asian supermarket

A new Asian supermarket is set to open within a unit at the Lewisham Gateway development.

Kiki & Miu Miu are to set up shop at units B1 and B2 and currently have another unit on the Walworth Road near Elephant & Castle.

Those two units are within the first phase of the project which completed some years ago and is the latest commercial space to be come occupied with Pret moving nearby.

Last week Sainsbury’s gained approval to open an hour earlier from 6am at another unit within the second phase of development which has only recently finished.

As part of the development a cinema was built on site but proposed operator Empire entered administration. The site’s developer are looking for an alternative operator.

Over in the shopping centre – which is to be knocked down in coming years – a branch of Waterstones also recently opened.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

  • Good to see empty units being occupied. I am sure the Asian Supermarket will be a great success serving local residents and offering a variety of products and specialist ingredients which other supermarkets may not stock.

  • I think it will be a good fit, too.

  • I think it will be a good fit, too. There are a growing number of shops like this and I have come across one in Stratford and another in Canary Wharf.

  • I’m sure Langdons won’t be impressed . But very welcomed imo. As being married to an Asian lady it’s great to see, I’m sure she’ll be happy about it.

  • Where is the Caribbean why do they not include Caribbean shop owners we have our own food the Asian community does not represent the Caribbean countries Asian is for Asian cuisine Caribbean is for Caribbean cuisine we eat different foods cook different foods we to need our own food shop I look forward to seeing the regeneration of the lewisham area to also include the Afro Caribbean Community we have contributed so much to society yet to be excluded is nothing short of hypocrisy and marginalized our community with this regenerational project happening in Lewisham

    • Yawn. Loads of free units. Why don’t you or the community open up? Easier to sit on sidelines and attack other communities.
