Greenwich car park could become housing

A small Greenwich car park could become housing under newly submitted plans.

The site at 64 Greenwich Park Street is close.to the long-closed Arches leisure centre as well as a former sorting office that previously saw residential conversion plans.

The car park is now disused and a storage area.

Sorting office plan

According to the application’s Design and Access Statement the car park was formerly used by sorting office staff.

Owing to the small site and previous issues over building in the conservation area, the site will total four 3-bedroom houses if approved by Greenwich Council planners.

Meanwhile no application has yet to arrive for the Arches site more than a decade after closure.

Car park documents can be viewed here.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

  • If the cat park is disused then the site might as well be used for housing. I am shocked that the old Arches Leisure Centre site has still not been redeveloped a decade on from closure in a prime location. The planning application process needs a complete overall so planning permission can be granted sooner on sites that are left empty and buildings that need redevelopment and refurbishment.
Developers leave some sites undeveloped for years and this is not acceptable during an housing crisis and ever growing housing waiting list.

  • Every time I pass the closed arches i can’t believe it – how can such a major council owned site be left undeveloped for so long? It’s almost as if the councillors want to make some areas more run down and neglected. What possible reason is there for this site being left to rot for TEN years?

  • Greenwich council sold the old baths for £16.2 million pounds back in December 2015. You would think that in all this time, the owner would have formulated plans for development. The one thing it can’t do is demolish the building as it’s listed.
