Old Kent Road eyesore to see increased affordable homes in development
An eyesore on the Old Kent Road could see an increase in affordable housing as building work finally gets underway.
Hexagon Housing Association have applied to increase “affordable” totals at 364-366 Old Kent. The site will see 42 flats above a shop and was first approved back in 2017.
Since then its remained an eyesore for years. Upon approval it was to 35 per cent in total though an increase was expected.
Now this new application states: “The proposal provides 100% of all new homes as social rented and intermediate homes”.
Hopefully the thing is now built. It’s another site sitting empty for years in London during a housing crises that’s offered nothing but a dumping ground for far too long.
The planning app can be seen here.
The revised proposal to 100% social housing is welcome, but the only tenant able to afford the retail unit will be a supermarket chain.
