Hotel proposed for Greenwich town centre building

Plans are in to convert a Greenwich building into a hotel on the site of Davy’s Wine Bar close to Greenwich railway station.

Athelney House has been part of Davy’s since 1969 and formerly part of Lovibond’s brewery.

It’s the latest attempt to diversify business on the site with Davy’s recently opening up a bowling alley on site.

Plans foresee a small boutique style affair on a smaller scale than the many other hotels along the street. If approved it’ll be the latest hotel along the street which includes a Premier Inn, Travelodge, Ibis, Novotel and Hilton.

Plans have been previously approved for another at the former Greenwich Magistrates’ Court.

Work has been very slow to start though a number of reserved matters for the site have gone in over the past year.

In 2023 plans were approved to increase rooms to 349 on site.

You can view the latest application for Davy’s by clicking here.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • It makes more sense to open an hotel in an area frequented by tourist like Greenwich Town Centre rather than some other areas of thr Borough where the plan to open hotels. Where rather than hotels mote affordable social housing woukd be a better use of the sites providing much need homes for people on the housing waiting list.
