Former Lewisham pub extension near complete as change of use approved

While wandering around Lewisham taking a few snaps of parts of the shopping centre due to be demolished I spotted that rooftop extension work above a former pub was looking near complete.

The former Suttons Radio closed a few years back and has seen a few floors added above and looks decent enough.

Lewisham isn’t exactly flush with good pubs and losing the venue was a loss.

Since then the building went on the market for £3 million back in 2022.

High pub rent

Annual rent for the unit was £150,000.

I thought it was about time for a little look to see if any planning apps had recently been made and sure enough another pub looks unlikely given in October 2024 an application was made to convert a “public house (Sui generis) to commercial use (Use Class E) at 139-141 Lewisham High Street SE13”.

That was approved in December 2024. As for what appears in the ground floor commercial unit – if anything at those very high rents – we’ll see. I’ll keep a look out on Lewisham’s planning website.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • We need more town centre living. I’ll see if I can find any marketing – I suspect that nearby Acorn will have got the gig – to see what’s on offer and for how much.
