National Rail sale to begin next week with half price tickets

A new national rail sale is set to be start next week following a similar offer in early 2024.

From 14 to 20 January 2025 certain selected advance and off-peak fares will be on sale with up to 50% off for travel between 17 January and 31 March 2025.

Last year’s sale did eventually yield some excellent value trips though I recall initially booking sites were slow to update. Bear that in mind if initially there seems poor options.

Most Train Operating Companies will be involved including those owned by government such as Southeastern. A press release lists sample fares across the country including St Pancras to Whitstable for £7.20.

While welcome news it will be followed by an above inflation fare increase of 4.6 per cent this spring enforced by the new government.

At the same time government retained a temporary fuel duty cut alongside frozen petrol tax.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here
