Greenwich bar’s late opening plan blocked
A bar in Greenwich has seen a proposal to open late blocked.
Calabash on Stockwell Street had sought to use a TEN (Temporary Event Notice) to open until 2pm for two events though an Objection Notice was given by Greenwich Council’s Environmental Health Service.
It went before a licensing committee meeting last week with a report by the council stating residents had complained and “The officer concludes that Mr Bankole Jones is “either unwilling or unable to control music escape from this premises and therefore is not currently promoting the licensing objection for the prevention of public nuisance””.
The council stated that based upon incidents observed ” the TEN Notice Giver does not have any respect for neighbours in the area and is either unwilling or unable to control music escape from this premises and therefore is not currently promoting the licensing objection for the prevention of public nuisance.”.
The licence holder stated in response that they refute the allegation and: “We are law abiding citizen and our kind of business attract only professional and business leaders in around the Greenwich Borough”.
The Licensing Select Committee’s decision can be viewed here.
Back in 2021 a Masterchef winner proposed opening a Japanese restaurant on site though that plan never came to fruition.
I think closing at 2 am is not required especially in residential areas where customers are likely to be noisey when leaving the premises and where live musuc is playing which can be heard from outside the bar after 11pm.
It appears local residents have already made complaints to the Local Authority regarding these issues. Unfortunately the bar owner has not addressed the issues raised.
