North Quay tower at Canary Wharf rising quickly

Canary Wharf’s ongoing expansion is becoming more apparent on the skyline as expansion to the north sees a new tower rise.

North Quay is a major expansion set to link the existing Canary Wharf estate and Elizabeth line station with Poplar.

Images in this post are taken at tow adjacent stations with Poplar to the north and West India Quay to the west.

The below shot is taken from West India Quay station with Poplar to the rear. North Quay excellent transport links will be bolstered in future by the addition of new, walk-through DLR trains and ten additional Elizabeth line trains.

Height

At the time these photos were taken last week the tower’s core was up to the twelfth floor.

In total it’s set to reach xx floors with commercial space at both street level and the top floor.

Rising quickly

This is merely the first phases of an eventual site set to cover land to the east.

In time the adjacent Billingsgate market site will also see redevelopment.

Future towers.

Links on foot between Poplar station and Canary Wharf across the dock will be vastly quicker once work complete. The tower itself is due for a 2027 completion.

The view below is from West India Quay showing Elizabeth line station to the right and North Quay on the left.

In the rear three students towers rising beside Blackwall DLR station are just about visible.

Architects KPF are behind the first North Quay tower’s design. It’s part of Canary Wharf Group’s ongoing move away from an overwhelming reliance on financial services with North Quay set to be a science, health and technology district.
